INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Application Forms
The forms necessary to apply for admission as an international student are now available on this website as Adobe PDF documents. Several of the forms are in IPDF format (these forms are indicated by IPDF in the list below), which means that they are interactive and can be completed/printed from your computer. All of the following items must be returned in the same envelope, along with the $75 nonrefundable application fee in U.S. dollars. The check must be made payable to Youngstown State University. Deadline to Apply for Admission
Fall: April 15

International applicants must provide all materials required at least four months prior to the semester they wish to be considered for admission.
It is recommended that all required materials be included with your application when it is submitted!
YSU enrolls students in accordance with the policy of the United States Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS).
Complete and submit the following forms:
1. Application for Graduate Admission for International Students*. IPDF - All names provided must be full legal names only. The name used on the application must appear exactly the same on all materials, and it must be the same as it appears on your passport.
2. Graduate International Student Financial Statement Form*. IPDF – You must provide evidence of your financial support and sponsorship during the period of study at Youngstown State University, including documents of verification.
3. Summary of Educational Experiences*. IPDF – A chronological record of all schools, colleges, and universities you have attended. FAILURE TO REPORT ALL PREVIOUS COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY ATTENDANCE MAY RESULT IN CANCELLATION OF THE APPLICATION OR DISMISSAL, IF LATER DISCOVERED, WITHOUT RECOURSE OR REFUND.
The following items must also be provided:
4. $75 nonrefundable application fee in U.S. dollars. The check or money order must be made payable to Youngstown State University.
5. Official transcript(s) or mark sheets, or certified copies. If the credentials are not in English, official translations must be provided.
6. Original bank statement showing the balance in U.S. dollars.
7. The certified copy of your graduation certificate/degree stating the degree earned.
Arrange to have the following test score(s) sent to Youngstown State University:
8. TOEFL score (minimum 550 on paper-based test or 213 on computer-based test)—arrange with the Educational Testing Service to have your official TOEFL score sent to our office (ETS Code 1975). A graduate of a foreign university who is a non-native English speaker, must score a minimum of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) administered by the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey; or, score a minimum of 80 on the Michigan English Language Battery (MELAB) administered by the English Language Institute, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior to full admission to academic study, students are tested and placed in special English classes, if necessary, to ensure an adequate level of English proficiency.
9. MBA applicants only: GMAT score. Arrange with the Educational Testing Service to have your official GMAT score forwarded to our office (ETS Code 1975).
The following forms are optional and are to be completed as noted:
10. Application for a Graduate Assistantship*. IPDF – Complete this form if you wish to be
considered for an assistantship appointment at Youngstown State University.
11. Recommendation Form*. If you are applying for a graduate assistantship, three professional recommendations (i.e., from supervisors, instructors, or colleagues) are required. Print three copies of the form and forward them to the three people who will make the recommendations. Ask them to return the forms to you in sealed envelopes, so that you can submit them along with the other forms.
12. Affidavit of Sponsor Providing Free Room & Board*. IPDF

Financial Aid - Financial aid for international students is not usually available during the first year of attendance.
