Background
The Northeast Ohio Robotics Competition (NEORC) is a regional competition
founded in 1998 to allow students from Northeast Ohio the opportunity to
learn outside the classroom.
NEORC was created by a consortium of engineering technology programs
that joined together to inspire and motivate students toward studies and
careers in engineering, science, and technology by providing a sports-like
technology contest. It is a collaborative partnership with Youngstown
State University, Kent State University - Ashtabula, Kent Tech Prep and
Mahoning Area Consortium Tech Prep.
What is NEORC?
The Northeast Ohio Robotics Competition (NEORC) is an academic program
that provides middle and high school students with a "hands-on"
learning experience for approximately eight weeks and culminating in a
competition in January (middle school) and March (high school) of each
year.
A team of students from each school is assisted by a teacher-coach for
an eight-week contest to build a programmable robot to perform defined
tasks.
Goals:
- Increase awareness of engineering, science, and technical careers
- Reinforce math, science, and technical concepts
- Foster teamwork
- Encourage critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Teach project management
