Week 3

It is GREAT to be back at YSU! I am now a sophomore Education major and living in Lyden house with my best friend Ayla (last blog writer). Move in was a blast and so far my classes have been going great.  A lot of homework and projects in every class I am takig this semester but nothing too hard to handle.

We are now entering our 5th week here on campus and boy have I been busy.  This week was full of projects that had to be turned in by Wednesday; both were time consuming but turned out really well as far as I am concerned.  For one of my classes I have to complete 15 hours of observation in a classroom, as such, on Tuesday I took off work and headed over to a local elementary school to watch the students go through their day to day activities.  Watching a classroom in this way gives Education majors great insight into what the world of teaching is really like and helps when making the projects for classes like the ones I had due this week.  Finally by Thursday my projects were complete and it was time to relax.

Ayla (room mate), Nick (boyfriend) and I headed to Wellsville, Ayla’s hometown to meet her family and see where she grew up!  We had a blast hanging out with her little sister Tony and parents at their house before heading to the “Hot Dog Shoppe.” We are now convinced that Hotdogs should only come from that eatery and plan to make it an at least once a month trip now.  It was cool to see where Ayla group up and learn more about her from her family, the really embarrassing stories we found we had to go to her parents for.  Living on campus is a great way to meet life long friends and Ayla is defiantly one of mine.  Next weekend we plan to go to my hometown for my birthday so she can meet my family and here the embarrassing stories they may have.

To close the hectic week Nick and I went to Cleveland for a cookout at his parent’s house.  On the way there the brakes in our car went out and we spent all of Saturday fixing them with his friend Brian.  Unfortunately I know very little about cars so allowed the boys to work on it while I took pictures of the mess they were making in the garage before dinner.  We then cooked out on the grill and had a nice dinner with friends and family.  Finally, on Sunday we took a drive through the Cleveland Metro Parks to a waterfall where we explored the area and watched a beaver make his dam.  It was cool to take a break from school and the city and get back to nature in the park.

In all I had a pretty busy with classes, Wellsville, and Cleveland but it was a TON of fun.  There is always something to do around here with friends when I am not studying which is one of my favorite things about living here at YSU.
