| YSU is committed to providing an effective assessment process that can ultimately support student learning, improve academic programs, and enable YSU to provide exemplary services to all constituents. |
| Goals |
The goals of assessment at YSU are
- To develop assessment processes that enrich faculty-student relationships and promote effective teaching and learning.
- To engage faculty, staff, and students in measuring and improving student learning in curricular and co-curricular activities.
- To use multiple sources of data on student learning to document and improve the quality of all educational programs.
To sustain the University’s continuous improvement on all levels, the Offices of Assessment and General Education collaborate with each academic department in all six colleges to design and co-ordinate regular and ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes for each degree program and for the general education program. |
| A systematic feedback loop also enables academic units to share information about student learning with students, faculty, and appropriate organizations Assessment Flow Chart (pdf: Visual and Narrative)*. All information is shared in aggregate form only, and the confidentiality of individual students is safeguarded. If assessment information is shared beyond the internal efforts of program improvement or accreditation, departments abide by the appropriate Institutional Review Board guidelines at YSU. |
The Office of Assessment is hosting its first annual assessment poster competition during spring semester 2012 to highlight best practices in assessment and to demonstrate positive impacts on student learning, teaching, and program improvement..
