| CATALYST
was
created to support teaching and learning at Youngstown State University,
in its courses, and in its collaborations with local schools.
CATALYST
has as its mission:
• to
be a physical and intellectual space devoted to excellence in teaching;
• to create a community of peers engaged in reflection, innovation,
and improved student learning;
• to foster thoughtful, critical, research-based attention
to teaching and learning at YSU and local area schools;
• to consult and assist in assessing and enhancing student learning;
• to provide assistance and information for grants, publications,
conferences, and related professional development opportunities;
• to provide an interface between the university and local schools
that allows YSU faculty and local teachers to maximize their cooperative
efforts to improve education; and
• to advocate for teachers and learners at all levels.
Through the
provision of information, resources, individual service, group activities
and events, and institutional support, CATALYST
seeks professional development opportunities and coordinates efforts that
promote and enhance teaching, research, practice, service and scholarship
of teaching and learning in the service of teachers and learners.
