Application Review

Proscessing your application may take four to six months, including time needed for mail delivery - even longer if some documents are incomplete or missing. You will receive some correspondence from YSU to alert you of problems, but it is up to you to make sure your documents are complete and up-to-date. You may write or E-mail (enroll@ysu.edu) YSU's Undergraduate Admissions Office at any time to determine the status of your application.

You can expect the following correspondence:

  • "acknowledgement" letter, soon after your application is received
  • "notice of missing items" letter, four to six weeks after your application is received; a second notice may be sent four weeks later if problems remain; and
  • "notice of admission" letter and visa eligibility certificate, if review is favorable.

Retention of Materials

All materials sent in support of your application become the property of YSU and cannot be returned to the applicant, forwarded to another institution, or duplicated for any purpose. Undergraduate application materials remain in YSU's Undergraduate Admissions Office for one year after the term of application. Files more than a year old are destroyed annually.

To Update or Backdate Your Application

If you decide to reapply within one year of your original application, you can do so by informing YSU's Undergraduate Admissions Office. You will not need to send a new application form. Your request to reactivate your application must be received by the application deadline for the semester you now wish to enter.

Your request to reactivate your application must be accompanied by a new application fee payment if the semester you request is more than 2 semesters beyond the one to which you originally applied. If you have completed additional course work, you must submit a current transcript of the work and later a final transcript of any new work currently in progress. If your TOEFL or MELAB scores are more than two years old, you must submit new scores. Finally, if your Affidavit of Support form(s) and supporting bank statements will be more than a year old by the start of the new semester to which admission is sought, you must submit new documents.
