Mountains of China: Geologic and Human History

Projected cost per participant, excluding tuition and fees: $3,250.00
Students will apply basic geological and anthropological concepts to the landscape and human history of China. We will visit three famous mountains of China (Huangshan, Wuyishan and Lushan), the world famous karst region of Guilin, Xi’an, and Beijing.

Archaeological Field Methods in the Bahamas
Faculty:  Tom Delvaux, Sociology and Anthropology
Approximate Dates: January 5 - 13, 2008
Projected cost per participant, excluding tuition and fees: $1100.00
An ongoing archaeology project in the Bahamas that runs  every winter break.  Students spend 8 days on San Salvador Island Archaeological field methods are taught as students gain valuable first hand-experience.

Eligibility: ANTHR 3702 (Archaeology) preferred but not required.

Activities may include company visits, lectures by industry and government officials, and university representatives.

Eligibility requirements for participation:  Graduate—Completion of at least 6 semester hours of MBA core courses by  the end of Fall 2007. Undergraduate—Juniors and seniors: 90 semester hours and at least 6 hours of business  core courses by the end of Fall 2007 and a minimum 3.0 GPA; Sophomores: BUS 15000, MGT 2604 and ACCTG 2602 and a minimum 3.0 GPA; Freshmen:

Spring Break 2008

Tropical Ecology in the Bahamas
Faculty:  Dr. Ron Shaklee  and Dr. William Buckler
Approximate Dates: Spring Enrollment; March 10-March 17
Projected cost per participant, excluding tuition and fees: $1200
Students will engage in a group field research effort while in residence at the Gerace  Research Centre on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas. This class meets one hour per week prior to departure for the Bahamas.

Eligibility:Students must be members of the YSU University Honors Program OR have a  minimum 3.4 overall GPA. Enrollment is limited to twelve students.

Geology Field Investigations in the Bahamas
Faculty: Dr. Jeffrey Dick and Dr. Shane Smith Geological & Environmental Sciences
Approximate Dates: March 5 - March 13

Course overview: Seven days of coastal geology, marine science, and environmental investigations on a remote and pristine tropical island. This is the16th consecutive year of the course offering. Several publications have resulted from research activities of past participants.
Eligibility: Open to all students by permit only; class size limited to 18 students.

Approximate Dates: March 7-15, 2008
Approximate Cost: $2,000 (limited number of $1,000.00 grants are available).
Activities may include company visits, lectures by industry and government officials, and university representatives.
Eligibility requirements for participation:  Graduate: Completion of at least 8 s.h. of Foundations courses plus at least 6 s.h. of MBA core by the end of Fall 2007;  Undergraduate:  90 s.h. towards degree and at least 6 hours of Bus UD core by the end of Fall 2007 Preference will be given to student who have taken Emerging Markets Initiative Grant-sponsored courses.

Early Summer 2008

Visual Arts of China: Communication through Art and Architecture
Faculty: Dr. George McCloud, Professor of Communication/Special Assistant to the President
Dates:        May 24 --June 20, 2008
Projected cost per participant, excluding tuition and fees: $2,940
We will use the visual arts as the lens through which we will seek to focus on the distinctive world view of contemporary Chinese people.  The course activities will include three and a half weeks of travel within China, assigned reading before and during travel in China, as well as extensive experiences at Chinese cultural and museum sites (Nantong Geyi Art Museum, Nantong University, Nantong Arts Institute, Nanjing Arts Institute, Shangxi Provincial Museum of Art, the National Art Museum of China. In addition, there are special activities that include visits to studios of traditional and modern art and architecture in Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing, Yangzhou, Nantong, Suzhou and Shanghai. A special feature is preview Olympic Game-2008 in China.)

Mayan Archaeology

Approximate Dates: May 15 - July 15, 2008

Students will gain intensive archaeology field experience while visiting the ancient ruins and modern sites of the Maya.

Eligibility requirements for participation: Open to all students; students who have taken ANTHR 3702 (Archaeology) or other advanced courses in anthropology and archaeology will be given priority.  Enrollment is limited.

Business Field Study Tour to Istanbul, Turkey

Approximate Dates: May 10-18, 2007

Projected cost per participant, excluding tuition and fees: $1,990 $300 scholarships may be available for WCBA students.
Participants will join students from YSU’s Turkish exchange partner, Yeditepe University, for a combination of activities including visits with industry, academic, and/or policy officials.
Eligibility: By permission of instructor only- Open to current undergraduate seniors and graduate students (min of 6 s.h. of MBA core)
