Carla offers an unwavering passion for the integration of career and academic advising at the first-year college student level. Skill sets developed over twelve years include career counseling, core-competency development, expert resume and cover letter writing, long-term academic planning, proactive job search guidance, mock interviewing, informal MBTI assessment informal Holland's Career assessment, and First Year Experience course presentations. Carla's personal advising philosophy incorporates a collaborative, transformational counseling style that emphasizes individual empowerment. She works with the College of Creatve Arts & Communication (CCAC), Williamson College of Business Administration (WCBA), and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). She will be expanding her knowledge of personality theory and assessment by attendign the MBTI certification program at Kent State University (March 2017).

Carla holds a Master of Arts degree in Education from Walsh University (2007), Graduate Certificate in International Higher Education from Kent State University (2011), and Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication (Journalism) from the University of Dayton (1994). She is expected to graduate (May 2017) with an Education Specialist in Higher Education Administration degree from Kent State University. Prior research includes faculty-led hybrid global learning in Italy for MBA students (2010), intercultural competence, exploratory career advising, and global citizenship. Prior to coming to Youngstown State University in September 2016, she oversaw first-generation students as Site Director for ten years with Walsh University; as a Residence Hall Director for the Upward Bound Summer (2015) program at Kent State University working with students of color; and has experience working with undecided and transfer students while at the University of Akron.

She enjoys creative writing, card making, hiking, and acrylic painting. She is dedicated to providing a holistic student-centered experience with an emphasis on integrating academic, career, social, and professional development goal setting.
