Youngstown State University
General Studies Program

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree at Youngstown State University. The BGS was approved by the Ohio Board of Regents in May 2005, with the first BGS students receiving their degrees at fall commencement in December 2005.

The BGS is administered through YSU’s College of Liberl Arts & Social Sciences, but allows you to use coursework from all six of YSU’s colleges to complete the degree. The degree is based upon developing an individualized completion plan that incorporates the coursework you may have already completed at YSU or other institutions.

Currently, there are approximately 130 students enrolled in the program, ranging in age from 20 to 65. After an evaluation of their prior coursework, several of these students were pleased to find that they only needed two or three classes to complete a degree.

This Web site will provide you with information about this new degree and help you determine if the BGS is your best avenue for degree completion.

If you find that the BGS may be a good educational option for you, we will be happy to answer any questions you have or to do a preliminary evaluation to determine your remaining degree requirements.

A BGS advisor can be contacted at either of the email addresses listed below or at 330-941-2311. We look forward to hearing from you.
