CAPS AND GOWNS: May be obtained in Kilcawley
Center Room 2068. Caps and gowns must be picked up during
the specified dates and times. If the scheduled times conflict with
your class/test/work schedule, a friend or family member may pick
up your cap and gown by presenting your YSU I.D. during the specified
dates/times. Caps and gowns will not be available the day of Commencement.
In no case should you plan to obtain your cap and gown on days other
than those listed below:
Monday, December 7 -- 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday, December 8 -- 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Wednesday, December 9 -- 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday, December 10 -- 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Friday, December 11 -- 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, December 12 -- 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Please Note: Caps and gowns that have not
been picked will be returned to the manufacturer. If you defer your
graduation, you will need to reorder your cap and gown.
After you have picked up your cap and gown, please check them for
proper fit. Exchanges may be made only on the dates and times listed
above .
Women should wear dark skirts/slacks and dark shoes with robes, and
men should wear dark trousers and dark shoes. Please do
not bring purses or other items you will need to carry.
PARKING: Parking is available for you and your guests in University
lots and parking decks.

ARRIVAL AT BEEGHLY CENTER: Graduates should arrive at the Beeghly Physical
Education Center at 1:00 p.m. and report to the rear (north) lobby. Obtain
a program as you enter. The main doors will also be open for relatives
and other guests at 1:00 p.m.
ROBING: The instruction sheet you receive at cap and gown pick-up identifies
robing areas. Immediately upon arriving, go to the robing area designated
for the degree you will receive and put on your cap and gown. If you are
listed on the University Honors page in the program, follow the instructions
for honor graduates.
GRADUATION HONORS: Names of tentative honor graduates will be announced
in the printed program. Transfer students, please remember: Baccalaureate
degree candidates with less than 60 s.h. at YSU and associate degree candidates
with less than 40 s.h. at YSU are ineligible for graduation honors. Your
honor designation should appear on the reader card you receive as you
line up. Honor cords are distributed with caps and gowns. Please note:
Master and Doctoral candidates do not receive honors.
LINEUP FOR PROCESSION: Form lines according to written instructions given
to you. Faculty marshals will be available to assist.
PROCESSION: The academic procession will begin at 2:00 p.m. sharp.
RECEPTION: Following Commencement, there will be a reception in the Chestnut
Room of Kilcawley Center. Please invite your guests to accompany you to
this reception.
DIPLOMAS: Diplomas will not be available at Commencement. Diplomas
may be picked up after 8:30 a.m. beginning Wednesday, January 6, 2010
at the Records Office located in Jones Hall, Room 1013. You must have
a photo ID when picking up your diploma. If you wish to have your diploma
mailed to you, please complete the "Diploma Mailing Form" available
at http://www.ysu.edu/records/forms/Diploma_Mailing.pdf (click
here) and mail it to the Records Office. You may also contact Cathy
Pokrivnak in the Records Department at 330-941-1584 for further instructions.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: You may purchase commencement announcements at the YSU
Bookstore.
PHOTOGRAPHS: A professional photographer will take a picture of each
graduate as he/she receives his/her diploma. Proofs and a price list should
be mailed to the graduate within two weeks of graduation. Graduates
may receive information from several agencies, however, U.S.A. Foto, Inc.
is the only photography company contracted by YSU to provide this service
to our graduates. Designated photo areas are available for guests
who wish to take pictures during the ceremony. Video cameras are allowed.
TICKETS: No tickets are required for relatives and friends to attend
this Commencement exercise.
ATTENDANCE: All graduating students are requested to be present at Commencement.
(See above for directions on receiving your diploma.)
NOTICE: In keeping with the dignity of the occasion and respect for other
graduates, alcoholic beverages will not be permitted in Beeghly Center nor will displays of inappropriate behavior
be tolerated. Marshals have been alerted to take whatever actions are
necessary.
