Remuneration: Tuition remission and a $7,500 stipend during the academic year (paid in bi-weekly increments)

Hours worked per week: 20 (split into three shifts)

Position Start/End Dates:  One week prior to term beginning for both fall and spring semesters. This posting is currently a one-year appointment only, with possible extension.

Qualified applicants must be able to work during the hours of 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Please check your program’s requirements and class schedule to see if you will have availability during this time.

Job Description:

The responsibilities of the graduate assistant in the Office of Admissions is to advise and inform prospective students regarding admission requirements, general financial aid procedures, academic majors, student and resident life and related information. The graduate assistant will also assist the Admissions staff in research efforts along with planning, marketing and recruitment activities.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Conduct presentations for prospective students and family members to provide information regarding admission procedures and policies, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, student life and academic programs, answer questions prior to and/or following presentations
  2. Assign student workers to tours groups for campus tours with prospective students and family members
  3. Assist with the planning and implementation of recruitment programs such as Penguin Preview Day, Experience Y Days, school counselor programs, and other Admissions related events to help achieve enrollment goals
  4. Meet with prospective walk-in students to discuss admission and scholarship/financial aid process and answer questions
  5. Answers prospective students’ questions via phone and/or email - refer students to appropriate departments/offices, when applicable
  6. Assist at front desk to answer incoming phone calls, greet prospective students visiting campus and walk-ins, when needed
  7. Represent Youngstown State University at local and/or regional college fairs and high schools
  8. Assist with hiring, training and supervision of the Admissions Ambassadors (student tour guides and telecounselors)
