Job Description:  

The Graduate Assistant Intern (GAI) at the Center for Student Progress will perform similar duties as our professional staff members. GAIs will have significant student contact, research opportunities, and an abundance of training.   

  Duties of GAIs include: 

  • Assists with the overall operation of the Center for Student Progress (CSP) services to develop an overview of the role of learning assistance in higher education. 
  • Attends training and briefing sessions for Supplemental Instruction, Student Tutorial Services, Academic Coaching Services, and Disability Services.
  • Meets with campus resource personnel who will act as referral sources for students using the Center for Student Progress.
  • Meets weekly with students in academic coaching sessions to facilitate academic success at YSU.  Each GAI is assigned up to 50 mandated students for weekly meetings for fall semester and up to 40 for spring semester.
  • Conducts presentations at various events and class sessions.
  • Creates recommendation reports on students served.
  • Creates assessment reports on students served.
  • Utilizes Starfish Retention Management system to monitor and follow-up with students.
  • Participates in special projects to support CSP programming as needed.
  • Assists CSP Disability Services with testing as needed.
  • Represents the CSP during campus events.
  • Attends bi-weekly staff/supervision meetings with Center Director and Associate Director.  
  • 20 hours per week including the week before the semester begins and during final exam week.
