This is a great book about finding yourself, especially if you are questioning
your own sexuality. The main character, Steven, develops a crush on a male
teacher and begins to question and deny his sexual orientation. He tries to
date many girls and though they may be very pretty, he cannot find a way to be
attracted to them. To avoid an uncomfortable situation with his mother he even
lies about a date to a school dance and ends up taking a golden retriever.
Steven eventually accepts that he is gay and comes out to his best friend
Rachel. Steven didn’t expect her to react as casually as she did. Her parents
congratulated him on finding himself and that gave him the confidence he
needed. Steven is gay and by the end of this book he is absolutely, positively
NOT afraid to admit that.
