During the Year of Darkness, two children were
born. One of them would be the Child of the Dark Prophecy-the one who would
bring the end to Avalon, and the other one would be the person to save Avalon
from destruction because he or she would be Merlin's heir. Merlin, the creator
of Avalon, would be leaving the Great Tree during that year, but he would be
leaving his staff behind in the care of a newborn eagleman named Scree who
would be adopted by a female Flamelon and become a brother to newborn Tamwyn.
They were two of many born in that year, but they were only two of a few
survivors because many were killed for the fear that he or she would be the
Child of the Dark Prophecy.
Seventeen years after the Year of Darkness, when one born in that year would receive his or her powers because they have entered adulthood. Tamwyn and his adopted brother Scree had been separated seven years before when their mother had been killed by ghoulacas. They had jumped through a portal in Fireroot and Tamwym had ended up in Stoneroot. He was positive his bother had come here with him, but he wasn't sure where on the root he had landed. Soon, Tamwyn would find himself chasing after a hoolah who had humiliated him and ends up running into a small group of travelers who were on their way to find the Lady of the Lake. The band consisted of Llynia, her maryth Fairlyn, Elli and her maryth Nuic. Together they will journey to Woodroot and continue their quest for the Lady of the Lake and the Staff of Merlin which they know will be with Scree, wherever he is. They will encounter dangerous creatures and stumble across wondrous land forms to fulfill this extremely important journey, but will they succeed? I've already placed this novel on my top 10 list! I absolutely loved it! I loved the author's use of irony throughout the story and his unexpected ending. I would definitely recommend this novel for ages 13 and up. It'll be a book that I will continue to read over and over!
