The title of the book I read was Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask. The book is about a girl named Carly Beth. Carly Beth is this girl that is always getting scared and tricked by boys because it's Halloween. Carly Beth wants to get back at the boys so she tries to find a mask that's really scary to try to scare the boys in front of everyone. As Carly Beth is walking down the street, she sees that there is this new Halloween store that has masks. The guy shows her around the store and out of the corner of her eye she sees these really scary masks. Carly asks the guy about the masks and he said that they were not for sale, so when the guy was not looking she takes the mask and runs. The owner of the store lets her go and says one thing: "She'll be sorry." As soon as Carly gets home, she tries on the mask and goes out to trick or treat. Carly succeeded in scaring the boys, so she though she would try to scare other people and she did. As she tried to take her mask off to eat some candy, the mask wouldn't come off; it was stuck to her face. She ran back to the store to get it off and ask the man for help. All the guy said was that she needed to believe and it might come off. The guy told the girl that the masks are haunted and are alive. Carly steps out of the building and tries to believe the mask will come off and it does. She threw the mask to the ground and all the masks in the store that were haunted flew out and left. I did not like this story because I like seeing scary movies on TV an in the books they are harder to understand. Scary stories aren't scary when you read them. Only when you watch them on TV. I really don't believe in this kind of stuff and in this book it seemed really unbelievable. I would rather read a story that was true. I enjoy nonfiction books because I know that they are try and because they are true, they are more exciting to me. The reason I chose to read this book was because I wanted to see if I would like to read scary stories. Goosebumps is a whole series of scary books for kids. I don't think I will choose to read another book like this again. I will choose something that is more interesting to me. ~ Frankie Fasline, grade 7, Reed Middle School |
