Fall 2004 Review:

Book Cover
My Mother Was Never a Kid

Francine Pascal

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing Division © 1977

Victoria Martin is a normal teenager making mistakes and wanting her own freedom. Her Mother has a different opinion. She lectures and punishes Victoria as if she was never a teenager, or experienced any of the same things Victoria encounters.

I believe this book presented the main idea with truth. Many teenage girls can relate to most of the topics in the book. I also believe the story contained a fairly good twist when Victoria finally realized Cici was in fact, her own mother. The book's general feeling can be compared to Pascal's Sweet Valley series. Overall, the book was very good.
