Walking On Air
is
a novel that takes place during the Depression about a 12 year old girl named
June, who is a tight rope walker in her father's show. Since her father
is both a preacher and a performer, their family is forced to travel from town
to town, and as a result they have no permanent home, and no money. June
comes to a point where she is torn between loyalty to her father and his show,
as well as her sick mother, and the idea of having a life of her own.
Overall, I really enjoyed this
book. I thought the plot was a little slow and predictable at the beginning,
but by the end so many different things had happened that I grew to enjoy the
storyline. I also think the author did an excellent job of developing
the characters, so that the reader gets to know each and every one of them.
The different settings in the novel leave something to be desired, but other
than that I enjoyed the story. I would recommend this story to any
middle or high school student.
