Graphic identity Standards

The YSU Logo

The traditional YSU logo has been the mark of the University for the past 25 years, and it became a highly recognizable symbol of YSU to local audiences. But because the words Youngstown State University underneath that logo are difficult, if not impossible, to read at small sizes and in certain important contexts—for example in television and billboard advertisements—the logo has little meaning outside YSU’s traditional market area. As the University has expanded its reach, it has become necessary to establish a graphic identity mark that clearly identifies the institution to all audiences.

The YSU logo may continue to be used in conjunction with the new wordmark, but in a secondary position. (It, like the wordmark, is not to be used in the return address on a mailer.)

The traditional logo may combined with other graphic elements, but the words Youngstown State University may not appear underneath it, as they did in the past.

Special Logos

Special logos for events, anniversaries, and the like may be designed for use in promotional materials if they work in conjunction with the YSU wordmark. The use of special logos for a specific program or event just be limited to a defined period of time and approved in advance by the Graphic Identity Standards Advisory Committee.

Official YSU Colors
The official University colors are red and white. The standard YSU red is Pantone 186

However, the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics may choose to use Pantone 185, which contains more yellow and is a brighter red.

University Seal
Use of the YSU seal is generally restricted in print formats to formal applications such as the commencement program, diplomas, and official declarations.
