Through the generosity of Robert Wick and the Wick Poetry Center at Kent State, the NEOMFA program will offer a special multi-genre workshop course for three hours credit from late July - early August, 2009. The workshop will be led by Professor Maggie Anderson (KSU) and will be open to NEOMFA students who have completed two semesters of course work in the NEOMFA program from any of the four campuses.

WEEK 1: July 20-July 24 (Kent)
WEEK 2: July 27-August (Bisbee, AZ)
WEEK 3: August 3-August 10 (Kent)
Students will come together daily at KSU from 10a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. the first week. The second week will be an all-expense paid trip to the Robert Wick ranch in Bisbee, Arizona where students will work, study, and experience the landscape and culture of the desert southwest. The third and final week of the course will, again, be held on the KSU campus T-F and M, from 10a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. Tuition reimbursement will also be available for students receiving the fellowships.
Students will be expected to have a generally defined project and a specified genre for their work during this three-week period (see guidelines below under how to apply). Genre may include creative non-fiction (journal writing, travel writing, essay, memoir), poetry, or fiction. Interested students should present a cover letter of intent to participate, a summary of anticipated work for the three-week period, and a letter from their campus advisor certifying the satisfactory completion of two semesters of MFA work.
Applications for the workshop should be sent by March 30th to Professor Maggie Anderson, Director, NEOMFA, Kent State University by electronic submission to neomfa@kent.edu. Please remember to have a letter sent from your campus advisor also if you are submitting electronically. Students will be advised by phone or e-mail of their acceptance by mid-April. If accepted, students will register for 3 hours of Individual Investigation (“Multi-genre Workshop”) credit through KSU.
