ARRC gets geared up for new adventures

YSU’s Adventure Recreation program is stepping up its game the new Adventure Rec Resource Center.

The center, which opened this semester in the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center, gives students who love outdoor recreation activities a place to network, plan and participate in such activities, said R.J. Markowitz, interim Adventure Recreation coordinator.

“By opening this space, we hope to not only expand enthusiasm for outdoor recreation, but also to offer more opportunities for a memorable experience while at YSU,” he said.

The Adventure Rec program provides a variety of activities for students at the Wellness Center, ranging from the 53-foot high climbing wall to the elevated challenge course 20-feet off the ground. The program also includes several off-campus trips, including ski and snowboarding, white water rafting and rock climbing. The program is also introducing a new Escape Room, where students go through a series of challenges and puzzles to find a key that lets them out of the ARRC.

At the new facility, students, faculty and staff can rent gear, ask questions, and further pursue their own outdoor adventures. ARRC will also host safety and outdoor clinics, monthly CPR and first aid courses and outdoor gear demonstrations.
