Faculty/staff achievements

Diane P. Kandray, professor, Health Professions, presented a research poster, titled “An Investigation of Underrepresented Minorities in the Dental Hygiene Profession,” at the 2017 American Dental Education Association Annual Session and Exhibition: Beyond Boundaries in Long Beach, Calif.

Laura Dewberry, director, Center for Nonprofit Leadership, and instructor, Marketing, was presented the 2017 David Hoch Memorial Award for Excellence in Service by Ohio Campus Compact, a nonprofit membership organization made up of 41 Ohio colleges and universities. The vice president of membership and a board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Mahoning Shenango Chapter, she joined the YSU faculty in 2009.

Amy Cossentino, director, Honors College, is one of 18 women nominated for the 2017 ATHENA Award, a program celebrating the accomplishments of outstanding professional women across the region. The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and The Vindicator will present the 25th annual ATHENA Award Program on May 18 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.

Ray Beiersdorfer, distinguished professor, Geology, recently led a geology field trip for the 2017 Pittsburgh Geological Society of America Northeastern/North-Central Section meeting. The field trip was titled, “Induced Seismicity and Other Environmental Impacts of Shale Gas Development in Northeast Ohio.”

Missy McCormick, assistant professor, Art, had her ceramics featured in a solo art exhibit, titled “Passing Perceptions," at Indiana University East. She earned a BFA in 3D/Ceramics from Georgia Southern University and an MFA from the University of Florida. She started her art career as a production potter in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia, has exhibited both nationally and internationally and has participated in artist residencies in the United States, Canada, and Denmark. A Poland, Ohio resident, McCormick is ceramics coordinator at YSU.



Hugh Earnhart, professor emeritus, History, has authored the second children’s book in his Forest Friends book series, titled A Day in D.C. with the Forest Friends and published by Orange Frazer Press. His first book in the series was titled The Forgotten Pumpkin. Earnhart is also a master gardener and naturalist.
