Marching Pride previews music for upcoming season

Want to get a sneak peek at what Youngstown State University’s Marching Pride has in store for the upcoming season?

Then you should attend “Meet the Marching Pride” 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in Stambaugh Stadium on campus.

The event marks the beginning of the marching band season and is free and open to the public.

In its first public appearance of the year, the band previews the music it will perform during Penguin football games this fall. In addition, the band will be perfecting its drill design, so those in attendance can to see how a marching band functions on the field.

Brandt Payne, director of Athletic Bands, said he is happy to welcome more 170 band members as they head toward the start of the Penguin football season on Sept. 1.

The Marching Pride’s first halftime show of the season will feature the music of Warren, Ohio, native Dave Grohl, who played drums for Nirvana and was the founder of the Foo Fighters. The show at homecoming will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Dana School of Music at YSU.
