Free saxophone concert features Dana alum

Wilson Poffenberger

A concert featuring music from Wilson Poffenberger, Youngstown State University alumnus, on saxophone and Nancy DeSalvo on piano will take place Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Bliss Hall. Admission is free.

Poffenberger, who attained a master’s degree in Saxophone Performance at YSU’s Dana School of Music in 2015, was previously a graduate assistant at YSU, concentrating his efforts on classical saxophone. At present, he lives and works in Paris, after receiving a Hale Woolley scholarship from the Foundation des Etats-Unis.

In the past, Poffenberger has played alongside the Dana Symphony Orchestra, YSU Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1, the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Jazz Ensemble, and the Hagerstown Municipal Band. Poffenberger’s credentials for chamber music include playing in recitals alongside the IUP and MOPP Saxophone Quartets during the Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015, along with playing in the 2014 North American Saxophone Alliance Biannual Conference and the 2014 Duquesne Saxophone Day.
