This Week at YSU, Nov. 14, 2016

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 14, 15 and 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Housing and Residence Life presents “The Tunnel of Oppression” in the President’s Suites of Kilcawley Center on campus. Also Thursday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. to noon. The Tunnel is a series of interactive displays on a variety of societal issues and -isms, and challenges participants to examine issues of power, prejudice and oppression.

Monday, Nov. 14, 6 to 8 p.m. The Department of Geography at YSU celebrates Geography Week with Professional Geography Night in Room 009 of the Phelps Building on campus. A panel of YSU Geography alumni will talk about their current positions and how their undergraduate geography degree led them into their career paths. Featured alumni include: Tom Buckler of the Ohio Department of Transportation; Grant Taylor of the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation; Ed Davis of the Eastgate Council of Governments; Jeremy Mickler of Markwest Energy Partners; Cheri Donofrio of the Mahoning County Auditor's Office and Tad Herold of the Columbiana County Port Authority

Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2 p.m. Joe Angelo, director of the YSU WCBA Entrepreneurship Center, hosts a screening of “Generation Startup,” a documentary about learning how to fail and redefine success. The screening in the Williamson Hall Auditorium is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week through a partnership with the Youngstown Business Incubator. The screening is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 12:15 p.m. The YSU Dana School of Music’s Brass Chamber Ensembles perform a free Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art.

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1:30 p.m. “Women in Entrepreneurship” panel discussion will be held in the WCBA Conference Center, followed by a panel presentation about “Technology in Entrepreneurship” at 3 p.m. The event is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week through a partnership with the Youngstown Business Incubator.

Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 16 and 17, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. YSU hosts a blood drive in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center to benefit the American Red Cross. The drive is open to the public. All donors will receive a Chipotle gift card while supplies last. Individuals are able to donate a pint of blood every 56 days. Donors are encouraged to eat a meal and hydrate prior to giving blood and to bring a list of any medications they are taking. A photo ID is required at the time of donation. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 5:30 p.m. A class titled “3D Printing 101” will be held in Williamson Hall, Classroom 2201, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week through a partnership with the Youngstown Business Incubator. Attendees of the course will learn about the history, current state, and future of the 3D printing industry and will have the opportunity to operate desktop 3D printers, design custom parts and print their creations. Thursday, Nov. 17, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The YSU Annual Tax Update, offered by the Williamson College of Business Administration, is scheduled in Williamson Hall at YSU. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. The seminar is designed for practicing accountants, enrolled agents, or tax preparers who want to stay current and knowledgeable on tax regulations and laws. Thursday, Nov. 17, 8 p.m. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., winner of the 2011 America’s Got Talent competition who wowed fans at a concert in Stambaugh Auditorium last year, returns to Youngstown to perform again. Concert proceeds benefit the Diversity Leadership Minority Scholarship Fund at YSU. This time, Murphy is joined by Motown legends Glenn Leonard, former lead vocalist for the Temptations; Joe Coleman, lead singer for the Platters; and Joe Blunt, lead singer for the Drifters. Friday, Nov. 18, 6 to 8 p.m. Opening reception for a dozen YSU students whose artworks are in the Fall Graduating BFA Exhibition at the McDonough Museum of Art. The show, which features work by students achieving completion of the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, runs through Dec. 10.
