YSU only university in state awarded gold award for wellness programs

Youngstown State University’s employee worksite wellness program has again received the Gold Level Award from the Healthy Business Council of Ohio.

This is the seventh year that YSU has been recognized, and the third year with a Gold award. YSU, which is in the "large business" category (more than 1,000 employees), is the only university in the state to receive the gold honor. Case Western Reserve University and the University of Cincinnati earned silver awards.

The award will be presented Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Nationwide Conference Center in Columbus as part of the Health Action Council of Ohio Annual 2018 Conference.

The award program annually recognizes Ohio employers that have demonstrated a commitment to their employees’ health by providing comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. The awards acknowledge efforts made to improve overall employee health, enhance productivity and ensure a healthy work environment.

Living Well, YSU’s Employee Wellness Program, began in 2009 and is run by Carrie Clyde, Wellness coordinator. The program offers a variety of initiatives ranging from screenings and health assessments to yoga, Weight Watchers to smoking cessation. New initiatives include a walking challenge campaign, “Fitness Flash Fridays,” and a program to address getting a good night’s sleep.
