Linguistics Minor

You're a lover of language, but you want to take your learning beyond spelling and vocab. Study the science of language acquisition and usage through a minor in Linguistics.

What You'll Study

Linguists look at language through the eyes of a scientist, a psychologist and a historian. They are concerned with the structure of language—sounds, words, sentences and meanings—and how humans acquire and use language to interact with each other and understand the world.

Through our minor in Linguistics, you'll learn the basics of the discipline and advance to more theoretical studies. You will also have the option to take relevant courses in a foreign language so that you can identify similarities and differences between two languages and understand how they each inform us of the world.

The minor gives you a flexible curriculum to complement a major in a number of academic areas, including English, psychology, anthropology and communications.
