“My design incorporates my love of history through the composite pun of Youngstown’s founder, John Young, and the penguin icon. The facial features are based on a portrait of John Young, as found in Joseph G. Butler, Jr.’s History of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, Ohio. The period clothing represented is culled from various sources on mid-late 1700’s American history. The pedestal features a cyclorama-like design depicting emigration to the fictitious settlement of Pengstown, as well as early views of its history.” |
