Quote

“Youngstown’s past was centered on the once vital steel industry. This industrial base indirectly financed many of the Valley’s ‘jewels,’ some of which are depicted on the sides of the pedestal. Time brings change, but ‘Penaissance’ combines a proud penguin with the concept of renaissance, to indicate a ‘revival of intellectual and artistic achievement and vigor.’ These qualities have been evidenced by, among other things, the new high tech addition to the Butler; the growth of YSU; the Davis Center in Mill Creek Park; and improved facilities at Powers Auditorium complex for performing arts. Intelligent planning for a diverse economic base, and the continued beautification and revitalization of the downtown area give hope for the bright future.”
