The YSU Percussion Studio is part of the renowned Dana School of Music and includes 15 majors in various undergraduate and graduate programs. Students may individualize their degree via specialization in orchestral percussion, drum set, jazz vibraphone, keyboard percussion, multiple percussion and contemporary music, world percussion, composition, and marching percussion.
Our students participate in private and small group lessons, guest artist clinics & masterclasses, perform with the acclaimed Percussion Ensemble and participate in the Youngstown Percussion Collective and the SMARTS Drum Circle Program.
Our mission is to foster a community of learners that respects cultural and musical versatility where each student develops a foundation of life-long learning concepts, musicianship skills, instrumental technique, repertoire, and technological literacy in performance and pedagogy.
Our faculty/staff includes Glenn Schaft - director of percussion studies, adjunct applied instructors, drumline instructor, graduate assistants, SMARTS Drum Circle Facilitators, and a Dance Department accompanist. We also host numerous guest artists who present recitals, clinics, and masterclasses. See Glenn's Site for his bio, press kit, calendar, photo gallery, publications, private lessons, and recordings.
We are proud to be
sponsored by Avedis Zildjian Cymbals and Dynasty USA who provide our program state-of-the-art instruments.
