The YSU Percussion Studio is part of the renowned 140 year old Dana School of Music and includes approximately fifteen students in various undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Our mission is to foster a community of musician/scholars that respect cultural and musical versatility and develop a foundation of life-long learning concepts, musicianship skills, instrumental technique, repertoire, and technological literacy in performance and pedagogy. The success of our myriad alumni is a testament to this mission.
Students may individualize their degree curricula via specialization in orchestral percussion, drum set, jazz vibraphone, keyboard percussion, multiple percussion/contemporary chamber music, world percussion, composition, and marching percussion.
Percussion majors participate in private lessons, small group lessons, seminar class, guest artist clinics and masterclasses, perform with the Percussion Ensemble, Youngstown Percussion Collective, and the SMARTS Drum Circle Program.
