Freer is a Percussionist and Assistant Principal Timpanist with The Cleveland
Orchestra. Prior to his position in Cleveland, Mr. Freer served as principal
timpanist with the Alabama Symphony, Principal Timpanist with the Fort Wayne
Philharmonic, and Principal Percussionist and Assistant Timpanist with the
Norrkoping Symphony in Norrkoping, Sweden. He is a graduate of the Cleveland
Institute of Music and a student of Cloyd E. Duff, Richard Weiner, Paul
Yancich, Jim Atwood and Mario Gaetano. An active clinician, Mr. Freer has done
clinics and masterclasses throughout the United States and Europe including
Yale, Peabody Conservatory, and Royal Stockholm Conservatory. Mr. Freer has
also been awarded two patents on percussion instrument designs, is the owner of
Freer Percussion Products, and is a consultant for Pearl Corporation, Adams
Musical Instruments, Zildjian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads and Pro Mark
Corporation.
