The Youngstown Percussion Collective (YPC) is proud to announce the world premiere recording of Ziggurat (exterior) which is one of numerous selections on the 2008 release Rainbow Jimmies by percussionist/composer John Hollenbeck.
YPC is a student organization dedicated to the advancement of the percussive arts and is advised by Dr. Glenn Schaft, Director of Percussion at Youngstown State University.
In 2007 the YPC, in collaboration with the YSU Saxophone Studio (Dr. James Umble - director) and Jazz Society, commissioned John Hollenbeck to compose a work; Ziggurat(exterior) was written for four saxophones and five percussionists and received its world premiere by the YSU student ensemble for the John Hollenbeck Showcase Concert at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City in October 2007.
The Youngstown premiere was presented at the DeYor Center for the Performing Arts and the piece was subsequently recorded at Tune Town Studios in Newton Falls, OH. The entire project, including a John Hollenbeck clinic at the Dana School of Music, was made possible by YSU student fundraising efforts.
