Ensemble Auditions


Spring 2013 Wind Band and Orchestra Percussion Auditions

 3-5pm, Tuesday Nov 27 for Wind Bands/Orchestra Percussion Section Auditions for spring semester 2013 ensembles, to be held in room 2326. 


Audition rep:

Snare drum- Mitchell Peters - Etudes for SD, #3

Timpani - Friese/Lepak -Tuning Etude #5

Xylophone - Gershwin - Porgy and Bess (1st excerpt, up to rehearsal # 69)


Instruments and music will be setup by the audition committee. Everyone will play the same gear, except for mallets, tuning fork, etc. Open auditions, i.e. no screen will be used.

Bring only your class schedule (submit it to the committee before playing) and mallet bag into the audition. Upon entering preset your mallets at the appropriate instruments. 

Begin when the committee indicates. Play the excerpts in the order listed above.  Move between excerpts and instruments quickly, but do not hurry. Tune timpani after the snare drum etude. Plan to play each excerpt in its entirety, unless otherwise indicated by the committee.

New students, be sure to check your xylophone and timpani mallets with a studio vet before playing on rosewood bars or timpani heads.
