E-mail Migration to MyYSU
The university’s new internal portal or website, MyYSU, will
be launched across campus for all faculty, staff and students at the
start of fall semester classes on Aug. 28. The portal will greatly enhance
internal communications on campus, including a new electronic calendar
function, group communications tools, campus announcements and a new
e-mail system that will provide additional storage space and provide
quicker response times for students, faculty and staff.
All faculty, staff and student e-mail accounts will be migrated to
the new MyYSU e-mail system by Aug. 21. Please read this memo in full
for important information about the migration.
Your
university e-mail address will not change.
The migration
will take place as per the schedule available at:
http://www.ysu.edu/portal/email_plan_081606.pdf* or
http://www.ysu.edu/portal/email_plan_081606.xls**
(if a login box appears, click cancel to load
document). (Note: schedule revised
as of August 16, 2006)
Check the schedule to see when your e-mail will
be migrated. The schedule is subject to change, so please review
periodically.
Prior to the migration, everyone should delete then purge all unwanted
e-mail messages. Otherwise, after the migration, these
messages will reappear in your inbox as unread mail.
The migration process is expected to take approximately four to five
hours, on average, per department/office. During
the migration process:
- You will receive an e-mail message in your inbox indicating
that the migration has begun.
- You will not be able to read, view, send or receive e-mail
from on or off campus.
- Once the migration is completed, you will receive another
message indicating that your e-mail has been migrated. You will also
receive further instructions for accessing your e-mail
and then be directed to the new portal.
- A contact person in each department/office will receive a
telephone call confirming when their migration is complete.
After
your e-mail has been migrated, the web-mail client (http://webmail.ysu.edu)
will be replaced by the portal e-mail
(http://my.ysu.edu).
Employees using a desktop client such as Netscape or Outlook will need
to modify incoming and outgoing server settings to
point to “myysumail.ysu.edu” instead
of “mailbox.ysu.edu” and “mail.ysu.edu”.
(This step can be completed prior to the migration
process if desired.) For more details on reconfiguring desktop clients,
visit the Tech Desk website at http://techdesk.ysu.edu/onlinehelp.htm
and click on “YSU E-mail (UNIX1 Mail / CUE-Mail / MyYSU Mail)”.
Questions
may be directed to the Tech Desk at Ext. 1595 or
