in federal funding to help YSU redevelop its materials engineering
program and take a leading role in framing the future of steel

- YSU signs agreements with Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. and Central
State in Wilberforce, Ohio to develop graduate educational partnerships.
- Hanahan Strollo/Ellerbe Becket named architects for Andrews Student
Recreation and Wellness Center. Ellerbe Becket, founded in 1909, is
one of the top 10 architecture/engineering firms in the United States,
designing sports stadiums to medical facilities. Hanahan Strollo, founded
in 1956, has designed more than 2,500 separate commissions valued at
nearly $1.5 billion.

F.W. “Bill” Knecht was named Penguin
of the Year by the YSU Penguin Club. Mr. Knecht, who served
on the YSU Board of Trustees, passed away January 2004. He was
chairman and CEO of Wendell August Forge.
