Categories of Alternative Time

NOTE:  All department chairpersons must submit the NTD form. A department chairperson who receives reassigned time in excess of his/her role as chair must report these hours on the NTD form. Hours for the chairship are not to be included on the NTD form.

  1. Sabbaticals, Faculty Improvement Leaves, and Research Professorships (Agreement: Articles 6 and 27.2).
  2. Departmental and/or College Time for Scholarship.
  3. Outside Grants (alternative time funded by such grants).
  4. Departmental and/or College-Level Programmatic Activities (e.g., program coordinators/directors, lab coordinators, etc.).
  5. University-Level Programmatic Activities (e.g., Quest, Senate, etc.).
  6. Departmental and/or College-Level Administrative Activities (e.g., assistant to the chair, etc.).
  7. University-Level Administrative Activities (e.g., Director of Faculty Relations, etc.).
  8. Union Activities (alternative time for negotiations, holding office, etc.).
  9. Match for Outside Grants.
  10. New faculty development time (Agreement: Article 16.4b)
  11. Other
