Group X Classes (Progression Based)
These classes are skill based, and participants will learn new activities in a progression style. Sign-ups are highly encouraged for these classes because space is limited, and they fill quickly. Instructional classes are indicated on the Group X schedule with an “ * ” and are FREE to current YSU students and Faculty/Staff Andrews members. Group X Workshops
The Group X program at Andrews offers monthly workshops taught by certified instructors that will expand the skill and knowledge base of participants in regards to the selected fitness topic. Workshops regularly offered are; Intro. to SPINNING, Body Bar, Resist-a-Ball, Medicine Ball, Dumbbell, Ab, and Plyometrics.

Group Fitness Extravaganza-Take 1
Not sure if you’ll like a class and don’t want to commit to an hour right off the bat? Come join us for the Group Fitness Extravaganza Take 1. It will take place throughout the day, with various sneak previews of classes happening in different areas of the rec center. Look for more information on the bulletin boards outside the aerobics studios, on the website, and on fliers.

Introduction to SPINNING

Medicine Ball Workshop
This workshop will teach basic exercises that can be performed with the medicine ball. The workouts will be great as stand-alone exercises or an addition to your workout plan. The exercises included will help your cardiovascular health, muscular strength and muscular endurance. To register, visit the administrative offices at Andrews.

Ab Workshop
Learn the basic biomechanics and anatomy associated with working out the abdominal area. Walk away with a workout plan designed to work all areas of the abdominals and lower back, incorporating body weight and tools such as medicine balls, stability balls, BOSUs, and weights. Group Fitness Instructor Certification Preparation Clinic-Jessica
Interested in becoming an ACE certified Group Fitness Instructor? This nine-week clinic will explain in detail the knowledge, skills, and abilities you must have in order to pass the ACE Group Fitness exam and become an American Council on Exercise Group Fitness Leader. Sessions will be held Thursdays at Noon in the Conference Room of Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Register in the Andrews Office Suites between 8am and 8pm. Group X Certifications
The Department of Campus Recreation is committed to providing advanced educational opportunities to the YSU community by offering professional certifications. Completion of these certifications can bring students professional opportunities and developed leadership skills while encouraging personal excellence and growth. Certifications regularly offered are; ACE Exams, ISCA Kickboxing, NETA Group Fitness, and SPINNING. Continuing education courses are regularly scheduled with the certifications.

ISCA Kickboxing Certification
This certification provides an overview of the theoretical knowledge and practical skill necessary to teach a safe and effective Boxing and/or Kick Boxing class. A written exam will be given at the end to assure proficiency and technique of the instructor. Topics covered are Physiology and Biomechanics, Injury Prevention Techniques, Mechanics of the Ring: Footwork, Boxing and Kickboxing Standards and Guidelines, Music: Mood/Sequencing, Equipment: Wraps, Gloves, Punch Mitts.

ISCA PlyoPac Workshop
This workshop is designed to teach the basic exercise formats that form a plyometrics based program using medicine balls, hurdles and ladders. Topics covered are Total Body Strengthening Workout, Stretch Shortening Cycle, Stability and Balance, Appropriate Cueing, Playground Activities, and Eye, Hand and Feet Coordination.

ISCA Ball2 Workshop
This workshop combines training techniques using medicine balls and a stability ball. Learn choreography and movement patterns to enhance cardiovascular and strength. Topics covered are Standards and Guidelines and Biomechanics of Stability Ball and Medicine Ball Training.
