Group X
Group X Class Descriptions (Drop-In)
Looking for a fun and exciting way to exercise? Our numerous formats are offered throughout the day to allow you to choose those classes which are interesting to you and will fit into your schedule. All Group X (drop-in classes) are free to students and members of the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Boot Camp
A class that will get your blood pumping and your energy rising!  The boot camp class will bring back the basics of exercise: abs, body weight exercises, and cardio, and add it to an enthusiastic and motivating class format.  On nice days, the class will venture outside.  Come join us if you’re ready to up your fitness to the next level!
Butts & Guts
Come to this class ready to work.  This toning class focuses on abdominal and low back stabilizer muscles along with the glutes and hamstrings.  (All levels)
Flexibility

This is a moderate to high intensity class, consists of throwing punches (jab, cross, hook, upppercut) and kick combinations. It includes shadow boxing, boxing with gloves on, and hitting pads held by a partner. Other things that may be found in this class include jumping jacks, pushups, light running, and ab exercises.

Kickboxing

This is a moderate to high intensity class, consists of throwing punches (jab, cross, hook, upppercut) and kick combinations. It includes shadow boxing, boxing with gloves on, and hitting pads held by a partner. Other things that may be found in this class include jumping jacks, pushups, light running, and ab exercises.

Pilates
This class is designed to introduce Pilates to new participants.  Based on the principles of core strength and stabilization created by Joseph Pilates, this is an all-encompassing mind, body, and spirit exercise class.  This class incorporates a whole body approach that is often shared with other techniques such as yoga and tai-chi.   (Beginner/Intermediate)
SPINNING

The SPINNING program is the original indoor cycling class which connects body, mind and spirit in an energizing session blending cycling techniques, sound training principles and coaching to build mental and physical strength and increase endurance.  The intensity of the class is regulated by the participant so first time riders and highly trained athletes can all get excellent workouts in the same class.  (All levels)

SPINFlex
The SPINFlex program is the original indoor cycling class with a portion at the end incorporating total body stretching.  Focuses on improving flexibility. (All levels)
Yoga Basics
This class is designed to introduce Yoga to new participants.  Learn the foundation and poses utilized in yoga in combination with body postures, breathing techniques, meditation, balance and flexibility.  Formats are developed utilizing a fitness based technique.  (Beginner/Intermediate)
Power Yoga
Become more physically and mentally strong in this total body test of strength and endurance.  Become more empowered and focus on the strength and unity of mind and body.
Women & Weights

Weight training isn’t just for men!  Participate in this class to discover the benefits of weight training for women and learn proper form and technique involved with free weight training.  We will discuss the common myths surrounding lifting weights & answer any questions you may have about weight training and fitness. No choreography involved!

Zumba

ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music & dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective class!  Classes feature interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. Zumba utilizes interval and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps. (All levels)

 

Instructional Class Descriptions (Progression Based) 

These classes are skill based and participants will learn new activities in a progression style. Sign-ups are highly encouraged for these classes because space is limited and they fill quickly. Instructional classes are indicated on the Group X schedule with an “ * ” and are free to all students and Andrews members.

Ballroom/ Latin Dance

Interested in learning how to perform various popular social dances?  Join this class and get a great workout while learning a variety of the following dances; Cha-cha, Fox Trot, Mambo, Meringue, Rumba, Samba, Swing, Tango and Waltz.  Taught by a Fred Astaire Studio instructor.

Tai Chi

The “moving meditation” class which incorporates relaxation, balance, coordination, stretching, isometric strength exercises, body posture and deep breathing with movement, mental awareness and concentration.
