Group X Class Descriptions (Drop-In All Levels)
Looking for a fun and exciting way to exercise? Our numerous formats are offered for all levels throughout the day to allow you to choose those classes which are interesting to you and will fit into your schedule. All Group X (drop-in classes) are free to students and members of the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Cardio HIP HOP

It’s workout time!! This class is high energy and a fun way to burn lots of calories! Expect basic Hip Hop choreography to fun, upbeat music with repetitions and incorporation of some weights and full body movements.   No prior dance experience necessary. The class vibe is positive, fun, and welcoming.

Fitness Boot Camp

A class that will get your blood pumping and your energy rising!  The boot camp class will bring back the basics of exercise: abs, body weight exercises, and cardio, and add it to an enthusiastic and motivating class format.  On nice days, the class will venture outside.  Come join us if you’re ready to up your fitness to the next level!
Butts N' Guts
Come to this class ready to work.  This toning class focuses on abdominal and low back stabilizer muscles along with the glutes and hamstrings.
Flexibility
A combination of jump stretch and yoga.  This class is to increase your flexibility, lean muscle mass and to establish and promote an overall healthy lifestyle.

Fusion Strength

Bring a deeper awareness to the body, mind, breath and spirit! Fusion Strength blends the focus of yoga, the precision of Pilates, and the muscular engagement of strength training and free weights. The added component of resistance challenges will take your workout to a new level
Spinning

The SPINNING program is the original indoor cycling class which connects body, mind and spirit in an energizing session blending cycling techniques, sound training principles and coaching to build mental and physical strength and increase endurance.  The intensity of the class is regulated by the participant so first time riders and highly trained athletes can all get excellent workouts in the same class. 

Spin-Lattes This SPINNING program is the original indoor cycling class with a portion at the end incorporating the abs and lower back muscles.  Focusing on your core will improve posture and help your cycling form as well.
Yoga Basics
This class is designed to introduce Yoga to new participants.  Learn the foundation and poses utilized in yoga in combination with body postures, breathing techniques, meditation, balance and flexibility.  Formats are developed utilizing a fitness based technique.
Women & Weights

Weight training isn’t just for men!  Participate in this class to discover the benefits of weight training for women and learn proper form and technique involved with free weight training.  We will discuss the common myths surrounding lifting weights & answer any questions you may have about weight training and fitness. No choreography involved!

Zumba

ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music & dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective class!  Classes feature interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. Zumba utilizes interval and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Body Sculpt Looking for a total body workout? Then this is the class for you! Focus will be on improving your strength, endurance, burning fat and bringing out your total body muscle tone using the most current fitness equipment around!
Pilates This class is designed to introduce Pilates to new participants.  Based on the principles of core strength and stabilization created by Joseph Pilates, this is an all-encompassing mind, body, and spirit exercise class.  This class incorporates a whole body approach that is often shared with other techniques such as yoga and tai-chi. 
Pump U Up! Looking for a total body workout? Then this is the class for you! Focus will be on improving your strength, endurance, burning fat and bringing out your total body muscle tone using the most current fitness equipment around.
Total Express This is an expansion of our popular drop in Abs Express class that is offered throughout the week in our Strength & Conditioning area. Total Express will not only work your abs to the max, it will help you define all your muscle groups from top to bottom!
Shake It Up

Get your body moving to the latest hip-hop and world beat music in this up-beat class. Have a blast while you dance the calories away!!!  Come shake it up!

Step N’ Sculpt

This class is the perfect combination of cardio & strength training! Using easy to follow step patterns combined with basic strength and yoga moves; you will burn calories & sculpt your muscles for a tight lean look.

 

Instructional Class Descriptions (Progression Based) 

These classes are skill based and participants will learn new activities in a progression style. Instructional classes are indicated on the Group X schedule with an “ * ” and are free to all students and Andrews members.

Tai Chi

The “moving meditation” class which incorporates relaxation, balance, coordination, stretching, isometric strength exercises, body posture and deep breathing with movement, mental awareness and concentration.
