Looking for an addition to your workout or a way to get your fitness jump-started in a comfortable and motivating setting? Check out our Group X schedule for detailed class formats and offered times. Our numerous formats are offered throughout the day to allow you to choose those classes that interest you and that fit into your daily schedule. All Group X classes are free to students and members of the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Drop-In classes are run on a first come first served basis while we highly recommend registering for the Progression Based classes in the Andrews Office Suite due to class popularity and limited space.

Group X Classes (Drop-In)
Looking for a fun and exciting way to exercise? Our numerous formats are offered throughout the day to allow you to choose those classes which are interesting to you and will fit into your schedule. All Group X (drop-in classes) are free to students and members of the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
BLAST—BLAST stands for butts, legs, abs, sweat, and tears. This class is sure to leave you feeling motivated and invigorated. It is a combination of moderate cardio and intense strength moves to target all of the major muscle groups of the body. (Intermediate/Advanced)
Butts & Guts—Come to this class ready to work. This toning class focuses on abdominal and low back stabilizer muscles along with the glutes and hamstings. (All levels)
Jazz Dance Aerobics—Jazz Dance aerobics is a modified jazz dance class incorporating a basic dance warm-up, progressive dance moves and choreography, and a portion of intense abs and ballet basics. Sure to target muscles not usually focused on. This class is a great addition to any workout.
Pilates—This class is designed to introduce Pilates to new participants. Based on the principles of core strength and stabilization created by Joseph Pilates, this is an all-encompassing mind, body, and spirit exercise class. This class incorporates a whole body approach that is often shared with other techniques such as yoga and tai-chi. (Beginner/Intermediate)
SPINNING—The SPINNING program is the original indoor cycling class which connects body, mind and spirit in an energizing session blending cycling techniques, sound training principles and coaching to build mental and physical strength and increase endurance. The intensity of the class is regulated by the participant so first time riders and highly trained athletes can all get excellent workouts in t he same class. (All levels)
SPINCore—The SPINCore program is the original indoor cycling class with a portion at the end incorporating the abs and lower back muscles. Focusing on your core will improve posture and help your cycling form as well. (All levels)
Total Body Conditioning—Total Body Conditioning is a full body workout incorporating both moderate cardio and strength moves. Resistance tools such as bands, bars, and free weights will be used, as well as your own body weight. (All levels)
Yoga— This class is designed to introduce Yoga to new participants. Learn the foundation and poses utilized in yoga in combination with body postures, breathing techniques, meditation, balance and flexibility. Formats are developed utilizing a fitness based technique. (Beginner/Intermediate)
Yoga for Athletes—A more challenging yoga class that also compliments your sport training. It combines the basic yoga moves that you’re accustomed to as well as more challenging and more sport-specific basics. This class will benefit a beginner to the very advanced yoga participants. (Intermediate/Advanced)
Yoga Break—Take a short break out of your day to relax and recharge. Yoga Break is a 15 minute introduction to Yoga and the basic body postures and breathing. Whether you attend Yoga regularly or have never taken a class, this break will benefit you.
Zumba— ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music & dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective class! Classes feature interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. Zumba utilizes interval and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps. (All levels)
Group X Level Guide
Beginner—For those just beginning an exercise program, these classes will teach you the fundamentals of each format.
Intermediate—For those exercising regularly, these classes will utilize additional choreography & move at a faster pace.
Advanced—For those who feel they’ve mastered group exercise forms & techniques & are ready to progress to a higher level.
All levels—These classes allow participants to work at their own pace & comfort level.

Instructional Classes (Progression Based)
These classes are skill based and participants will learn new activities in a progression style. Sign-ups are highly encouraged for these classes because space is limited and they fill quickly. Instructional classes are indicated on the Group X schedule with an “ * ” and are free to all students and Andrews members.
Ballroom Dance—Interested in learning how to perform various popular social dances? Join this class and get a great workout while learning a variety of the following dances; Cha-cha, Fox Trot, Mambo, Merengue, Rumba, Samba, Swing, Tango and Waltz. Taught by a Fred Astaire Studio instructor.
Boot Camp—A class that will get your blood pumping and your energy rising! The boot camp class will bring back the basics of exercise: abs, body weight exercises, and cardio, and add it to an enthusiastic and motivating class format. On nice days, the class will venture outside. Come join us if you’re ready to up your fitness to the next level!
Jump Stretch— Jump Stretch is a type of resistance training program that uses elastic bands to progressively increase strength and power, flexibility, lean muscle mass, and to establish and promote an overall healthy lifestyle.
Sports Conditioning— This class is geared towards those individuals who do not enjoy the choreography of aerobics. We will focus on testing your strength, muscular endurance and anaerobic threshold by introducing plyometrics, coordination drills and sports specific exercises.
Tai Chi—The “moving meditation” class which incorporates relaxation, balance, coordination, stretching, isometric strength exercises, body posture and deep breathing with movement, mental awareness and concentration.
WiFi— Weight training isn’t just for men! Participate in this class to discover the benefits of weight training for women and learn proper form and technique involved with free weight training. We will discuss the common myths surrounding lifting weights & answer any questions you may have about weight training and fitness. No choreography involved! |
