INFORMATION FOR FACULTY

Working Together:  Faculty and Students with Disabilities

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities.

That statement has been a sanctuary for a diverse people who have been diagnosed with physical, psychological and learning disabilities as they sought accommodations to aid in their desired goal of pursuing a degree.

Ultimately, here at YSU, the success of Disability Services occurs only if the student, professor and the University work toward a common goal and from a well-informed database.  As the number of students with disabilities increases, faculty need to increase their level of awareness regarding disabilities, how to best assist students with various disabilities and how to provide needed classroom accommodations so the student with disabilities has equal access to education.

The following sections provide much information that will assist faculty in supporting students with disabilities in their pursuits of higher education.
