SGA Meeting Minutes 03-18-2013

Cory called the meeting to order at 4:02 PM

Guest Speaker: Dan Procopio, Associate Director of Student One Stop

-        Refer students to Student One Stop with issues regarding Financial Aid, Registration, and Student Accounts

Caroline took role

Cory approved the minutes from last meeting

Cory moved to Executive Business

Cory gave the President’s Report

-Budget increase by $15,000.00, thank you letter is being sent to the cabinet

-Tim Ryan Meditation Session to be held near finals week, most likely Chestnut room or Rec Group X Studio based on estimated turnout

-SOAR sign-up sheet for Tuesday was passed around to body members

-First Year Experience committee will have final meeting this week

-OOHLALA app holding a campus picture contest with mystery prize, looking to do another “Treasure Hunt” this April

-Amusement Parks offering student discounts, Splash Lagoon representative coming to speak with Cory and Justen this week

-Last Lecture surveys complete

-SGA tables this Wednesday in Moser Hall, moving tables back to Kilcawley for SOAR

-4 Year Guarantee draft

-Technology proposal sent to Academic Senate, suggestion made to have regulations on every professor’s syllabus

-Complaints and confusion regarding the Presidential Search Committee

Justen concluded his report

Catie was not present to give the Vice President of Financial Affairs Report

Caroline gave the chair report for Student Life Committee

-Discussed visiting Fitch over Spring Break with University Affairs committee for YSU Promotion

-Reviewed Meet the Reps comments and complaints

-Finalized many activities for SGA Retreat, still have a few more details to work out

-Working on SGA Elections flyer

Nicole gave the chair report for Academic Affairs Committee

-Dr. Tessier will most likely be our Last Lecture speaker, in process of contacting her

-4 Year Plan investigation and research

Alyssa gave the chair report for University Affairs Committee

-YSU Promotions to Fitch and Boardman over Spring Break were a success, more schools in upcoming weeks

Charesse gave the chair report for Financial Appropriations Committee

-Potential ideas discussed for improvement next year, be more strict on requirements

-Happy about budget increase

Gallery Remarks

Members from Student Diversity spoke about their three main concerns:

  1. East, Chaney and other inner city Youngstown high schools not being visited by University Affairs committee for YSU Promotion
  2. Lack of campus-wide emails regarding changes in SGA by-laws and constitution
  3. SGA Executive GPA requirement should be equivalent to university requirement of “Good Standing”

-        Sarah justified school selection process and assured that we are in touch with inner city Youngstown schools

-        Melissa questioned  what “University GPA requirement” specifically was

-        Rebecca asked about other inner city schools
