Penguins Land League-High 16 on Academic All-League Team

    Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Horizon League announced its Spring Academic All-League teams, honoring 78 student-athletes, and Youngstown State led all league institutions with 16 selections.
    Senior women's golfer Gina Abruzzino was one of just seven student-athletes who are three-time selections while baseball players Brandon Caipen and Kevin Libeg, men's golfer Josh Zarlenga and Katy Williams, Emily Schnitkey and Leslie Johnson of the women's track and field team are two-time picks.
    Making the list for the first time are Jeanna Cunningham (women's track and field), Matt Gnacinski (baseball), Dave Mealy (men's track and field), Karen Najbert (women's tennis), Josh Page (baseball), Gina Peretti (women's tennis), Bonnie Sherman (women's golf), Nick Smith (men's track and field), Mike Turjanica (baseball), 
    The Spring Academic All-Horizon League Teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1) a cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) of 3.25 or better on a 4.00 scale; 2) have completed at least three semesters at the same institution; and 3) be a starter or significant contributor in a League-sponsored sport. The team is comprised of the same number of first-team All-Horizon League student-athletes in each sport. Ties are not broken.
