Academics: Nine Penguins Named To
All-League Winter Sports Squads

Headlined by seven indoor track and
field selections, the Youngstown
State winter sports squads -- indoor
track and field, men's and women's
basketball and women's swimming and
diving -- had nine Academic
All-Horizon League selections, the
conference announced on Thursday.
The seven indoor track and field athletes who were named
academic all-conference were Bethany
Anderson, Lindsay Cobey, Jarrod
Davis, Dave Mealy, Nick Smith, Drew
Weizer and Katy Williams. Joining
those individuals were senior Ashlee
Russo who was one of five
student-athletes selected to the
women's basketball squad and junior
Becky Bertuzzi who was named the to
the swimming and diving academic
all-league team.
YSU's total of nine student-athletes named to a total of six
teams ranked fifth overall in the
conference. Excluding the men's
swimming and diving category, which
Youngstown State does not sponsor,
the Penguins had the third-highest
total in the five other sports.
For the year, YSU has a total of 11 All-Horizon League
academic selections, including
volleyball student-athlete Abby
Ettenhofer and cross country
standout Emily Cicero in the fall. |
