YSU Student-Athletes Post
Record-Setting Fall Semester
An impressive group of 30 Youngstown State University
student-athletes earned a 4.0
grade-point average during the 2007 fall semester
and as a group, an all-time high 55
percent of all Penguins
student-athletes posted at least a
3.0 GPA, the Athletic Department
announced on Monday.
Also, of the 16 sponsored athletic teams, 12
maintained grade-point averages
above 3.0. The women's golf team led
the way with an impressive 3.33
GPA as a group. The highest men's
team is the cross country squad
which owns a cumulative GPA of 3.11.
Of YSU's 351 total student-athletes, 179 posted a
semester grade-point average above
3.0.
The following 13 student-athletes currently own a
cumulative grade-point average of
4.0: Jason Anderson (track and
field), Stephen Blose (football), Jodi
Bowlen (soccer), Kelly Culbertson
(tennis), Erik Johnson (football),
Melanie Kiko (soccer), Phil Klein
(baseball), Irena Lanc
(tennis), Anthony Porter (baseball), Todd Rowan
(football), Erin Schindler
(softball), Spenser Sulzener (golf)
and Joel Younkins (football).
Along with the student-athletes listed previously, the
following 17 athletes received a 4.0
grade-point average during the fall
