YSU to Host Silver Spikes Elite Camp in August at Eastwood Field

    Youngstown -- The Youngstown State baseball program will host an elite summer prospect camp in conjunction with Pastime Tournaments and Silver Spikes on Aug. 22-23 at Eastwood Field.
    The camp will be a two-day event for high school players to showcase their talents and receive instruction from area college coaches. Release | Register

Swenson Named Valley Baseball League Pitcher of the Week
Aaron Swenson       Youngstown -- Youngstown State senior Aaron Swenson has been named the Valley Baseball League South Division Pitcher of the Week after a solid outing for the Staunton Braves.
    Through three starts for the Braves, Swenson has allowed just two earned runs in 20.1 innings. He has struck out 17 and walked six, and opposing batters are hitting .197 against him. Release
Marzec Off to Strong Start for River Bats in Northwoods League
Eric Marzec       Youngstown State baseball player Eric Marzec is off to a hot start for the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods League. Marzec, a senior outfielder and pitcher for the Penguins, is batting .372 with seven RBIs in eight games for the River Bats. He is leading the North Division in RBIs, five of which came in the season opener. Marzec has also struck out eight of the 18 batters he's faced and has not allowed a run in five innings.
Penguins Baseball Practices with Rich Center for Autism Students

    Youngstown -- Members of the Youngstown State baseball program volunteered to play with young fans who attend the YSU Rich Center for Autism earlier this week at Stambaugh Stadium.
    Head Coach Rich Pasquale, assistant Tom Lipari and players Jason Reitenbach, Trent Wood and Casey Holland played with the group of three students for about a half hour. Release

Guins Can't Overcome Early Deficit, Fall 7-6 in League Tourney

    Lorain, Ohio -- The Youngstown State baseball team trimmed an early five-run deficit to one, but the Penguins could not complete the comeback in a 7-6 loss to Butler in the play-in game of the 2009 Horizon League Baseball Championship.
    YSU's season ends with a record of 16-35 while Butler moves on to play Wright State on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Release | Stats
