Duquesne
Outslugs Penguins, 18-11, in Wild

-- Duquesne scored 11 runs over
a three-inning span and outlasted
Youngstown State 18-11 in a game
that featured 32 hits, seven errors,
10 walks, eight hit batsmen and
three ejections.
Seven different Penguins had two hits apiece, but YSU
pitchers walked eight hitters and
hit five batters.
YSU dropped to 9-15 and fell for the fourth straight game
while Duquesne improved to 11-12.
Eric Morrison went 3-for-6 with five RBIs to lead the Dukes.
Duquesne went up by three in the third after Morrison's
two-run homer to center, but John
Koehnlein and Erich Diedrich brought
in runs for YSU in the bottom of the
inning to make the score 3-2.
The Dukes got the two runs back in the fourth and took a 6-2
advantage on Mike Carroll's solo
blast in the fifth. YSU stormed back
with a five-run fifth on six hits
and an error to take its first lead
at 7-6.
The Dukes answered with six runs in the sixth, and YSU
countered with with three in the
bottom half to make the score 12-10.
Five Duquesne runs in the eighth
blew the game open at 17-10.
Cory Hornyak suffered the loss for the Penguins, allowing
four runs on three hits in 1.2
innings. Travis Rife earned the win
for Duquesne despite being tagged
for seven runs on nine hits in five
innings.
The Penguins will play at Pittsburgh on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
