Penguins to Play 2,000th Game Wednesday vs. Marshall at Cene
Park
Youngstown
-- Youngstown State will play
its 2,000th game as a program on
Wednesday in a doubleheader against
Marshall. It will be the Guins’ only
stop at Cene Park this season. First
pitch is set for 1 p.m., and both
games will be seven innings.
The Penguins won one out of
three games against the Thundering
Herd in mid-March, but they scored
just four runs combined in the
series. The Guins are in a similar
hitting funk entering the
doubleheader. In the last 10 games,
YSU has scored more than three runs
only twice and eclipsed 10 hits
twice. One of those two games came
in the finale at Butler Sunday when
YSU won 6-5 in 10 innings behind 13
hits, their highest total since
having 14 against the Bulldogs on
April 4.
YSU was scheduled to play its
2,000th game on Sunday, but a
doubleheader at Milwaukee on
Saturday was rained out. YSU, which
captured the program’s 1,000th
victory earlier this season, is
playing in its 55th season dating
back to 1948.
YSU will play three games at
Valparaiso, a team it owns a 1/2
game lead over in the Horizon
standings, this weekend. |
