Played in 31 games and started 30 – 29 in the outfield and one at
DH… Also started a game on the mound and made nine relief appearances… Named Second-Team
All-Horizon League as a utility player for the second straight year despite missing more
than a month with an injury to his glove hand… Prior to his injury, he was an everyday
outfielder, starting 15 times in right because of his arm strength and 14 games in center
because of his range… Hit third or fourth in the order in 27 of his starts… Batted .289
with six home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored... Led the team in slugging at .547… Was
leading the team in triples and homers before the injury… Even with his missed time,
he had nine multi-hit games, six multi-RBI games and five multi-run games… Hit in 10
straight games from March 21 to April 11 and hit safely in 21 of the first 24 games…
Went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs at Wright State (3/20)… Also had two steals in
the contest… That was in the middle of a six-game span in which he drove in nine runs
and had 11 hits… Was a single from hitting for the cycle against Butler (4/4)… scored
three times and drove in a season-best four runs in the game… Homered in back-to-back
games twice – in both games of a doubleheader at Towson on March 7 and against Pittsburgh
and Akron on March 17-18… Went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the Horizon
League Tournament in his first game back from the injury… On the mound, he did not pitch
after April 18 because of the injury... Had a 2.40 ERA with two saves in 15.0 relief
innings… Walked six and struck out 20 in 17 innings for 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings...
Fanned at least two batters in seven of his 10 appearances… Picked up saves against Butler
(4/5) and Cleveland State (4/12)... Struck out three and retired all six batters he faced
against Cleveland State… Three of the six extra-base hits he allowed came in his lone
start, which was his first appearance of the season… Showed the ability to go longer
in relief, striking out a season-high five in 3.1 innings at Wright State (3/21).
2008 | Sophomore
Named Second-Team All-Horizon League as a utility player... appeared
in 45 games and made 43 starts - 36 in right field and seven at designated hitter...
also made 12 appearances out of the bullpen. AT THE PLATE - batted .304 with a team-high
five home runs... also scored 32 runs, drove in 29 and was 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts...
ranked tied for sixth in the Horizon League in triples (3)... upped his average 84 points
from his freshman year... had 13 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games... tied the
school record (Jim Lipinski) for home runs in a game with three against West Virginia
on May 12... went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, six RBIs and a steal against the Mountaineers
to also set the YSU's single game total bases record (13)... hit a three-run shot in
the fourth, a solo homer in the seventh and a two-run homer in the ninth... hit a walk-off
home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Penguins a 6-5 victory over UIC
(April 11)... had another walk-off hit in YSU's 8-7 victory in 14 innings over Duquesne
(April 2)... singled home C.J. Morris to cap a three-run rally that snapped the Dukes'
11-game winning streak... also homered at Cleveland State (April 25)... batted
.375 in April with 21 runs, 18 RBIs, eight doubles and two homers in 22 games... was
hitting .114 on March 30 before hitting .353 the rest of the way... went 2-for-2 with
three runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base against Kent State (May 13)... went 3-for-5
with four RBIs versus Bowling Green (April 1)... had three hits five different times...
had four assists in the outfield, two of which came on gunning runners at home at Georgia
Tech (Feb. 22) and versus Tiffin (April 3). ON THE MOUND - Made 12 appearances,
eight of which came after he played in the field... was 2-1 with a 2.82 ERA, two saves
and 18 strikeouts in 22.1 innings... did not allow a run in eight of his outings... held
hitters to a .198 average... 12 of his 17 walks came in four outings... did not yield
a run in seven straight innings from April 1 to April 8... held Xavier scoreless and
struck out six in five innings to pick up his first win (March 15)... grabbed his first
save against Bowling Green, tossing 1.2 scoreless frames (April 1)... threw three scoreless
innings the night after against Duquesne... earned his second save against UIC, yielding
one run in two innings (April12)... also beat Milwaukee by throwing two scoreless innings
(April 20)... did not pitch after April 23 at Penn State.
2007 | Freshman
AT THE PLATE - Played in 45 games and started 26 in right field and
one as the designated hitter ... hit .220, scored seven runs and drove in six ... had
five multi-hit games, including three in his first six games ... doubled twice and scored
at Missouri (3/2) ... also had back-to-back two-hit games against Akron (5/15) and Cleveland
State (5/18). ON THE MOUND - Started four games and made one relief appearance ... struck
out 20 batters in 18 innings ... allowed only one run in his first five innings ... earned
his first win at Ohio despite allowing five runs in five innings (3/27) ... allowed one
run on two hits in four innings at Marshall (3/14) ... struck out a career-high seven
batters in four innings against Duquesne (4/3) ... did not pitch after April 3.
High School
Was a three-year letterwinner and team captain one year ... named
Ohio Division III Player of the Year by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association
as a senior ... also named First-Team All-Ohio ... went 10-1 as a senior at Central Catholic
... won his first 10 decisions in 10 complete games before losing to Youngstown Ursuline
in the State seminal game ... allowed 16 earned runs in 70 innings his senior year and
just eight earned runs in his first 68 innings ... also hit .371 with four home runs
and 30 RBIs as a senior…went 6-1 with an ERA of 1.28 as a junior ... set the school record
for strikeouts in a game with 18.
