Meeting Minutes

Members in Attendance: Frank Bosso, Ron Chordas, Kathylynn Feld, Terry Fullum, Elaine Jacobs, Dan O’Connell, Jimmy Myers

The committee approved the January 4, 2006 minutes.

The committee reviewed Operating Principle 3.3, Self Study Item #6.  YSU conducts exit interviews primarily through athletes having an in-person meeting with the Senior Woman Administrator.  The exit interview tool was provided and the committee felt the questions covered a wide area of topics and the responses would be helpful to the administration when making decisions.  A summary was provided to the committee from the most recent exit interview summary.  The summary is normally shared with the entire athletics department staff, the FAR, the President, and the IAC.  The summary is generated about every three years to protect the responses from sports with small squad sizes.  From the recent Horizon League Audit, there will be a greater effort made to have the FAR also conduct the interviews.

The committee was reminded of the use of the Student-Athlete Input Forms, SAAC meetings, and participation in department and university committees as other ways in which student-athletes can provide input.

The committee reviewed Operating Principle 3.3, Self Study Item #7.  The committee reviewed the department’s Grievance Procedure, Transfer Appeal Procedure, and the Financial Aid Reduction/Cancellation Procedure.  All three procedures include opportunities for individuals outside of the athletics department to provide input and ultimately make decisions related to these appeals.  All procedures are included in the Student-Athlete Handbook and the Operation’s Manual.

The committee was provided a draft of the Equity and Student-Athlete Welfare section.  Members are asked to review the entire document before Wednesday, February 1, 2006 and email any comments to the entire group.
