Meeting Notes

In Attendance:  Cyndy Anderson, Elaine Jacobs, Jane Kestner, Daryl Mincey, Jimmy Myers, Scott Schulick, David Sweet, Paul Walker

Meeting began at 1:00 p.m.

    A copy of the NCAA Self Study, NCAA Handbook, and the recommendations from both the 1996 self study and the NCAA Interim Report were provided to each member of the committee.  Dr. Sweet thanked those in attendance for their willingness to participate and is looking forward to the results of a thorough review of our department.  He also noted that YSU will be going through the North Central Accreditation process during the same time as our NCAA self-study.

    Elaine reviewed the Handbook with the committee, as well as explained what the next 18-month or so process will be.  Elaine updated the committee on the first steps already taken in the process that included notice and support of the NCAA self study from both the Intercollegiate Athletics Council and the Board of Trustees. 

    Specific attention was given to the need to prepare a written plan for completing the self-study.  Elaine provided a draft of objectives and timetables based on the required criteria for input from the committee.  The plan needs to be finalized prior to the NCAA videoconference in the fall.

    In addition, the sub-committee chairs (Kestner, Maraffa, and Chordas) were directed to review a proposed list of sub-committee members, giving attention to both the individuals expertise in contributing to and analyzing data, as well as insure the make up is broad based and diverse.  The sub-committee chairs were requested to contact each proposed member and request his/her participation in the self study, and to finalize the subcommittee membership by August 26, 2005.
